Multicoax connector simplifies board layout

Amphenol Ardent Concepts adds a 16-channel, right-angle form factor to its TR Multicoax connector portfolio to alleviate height concerns with its vertical launch connectors

Amphenol Ardent Concepts has expanded its TR Multicoax connector  family with the introduction of a 16-channel, right-angle form factor. The new connector is designed to alleviate height concerns with its vertical launch connectors in applications that are Z-height−limited. This includes taking signals from underneath the board or under a heat sink and getting cables out from under a thermal shroud, said the company.

The new form factor uses the standard 16-channel footprint as Ardent’s straight-mount TR Multicoax. This gives designers greater flexibility to switch launch form factors without any layout change.

The TR Multicoax offers a dense PCB footprint, which saves board real estate and enables the coaxial cables to get extremely close to the devices, minimizing lossy trace lengths. In addition, the interface is compression-mounted, which eliminates solder-down components that can’t be recovered.

Available in a variety of channel counts and form factors, the TR Multicoax series connectors can support speeds of 70 GHz+, with a roadmap to 110 GHz in the near future.
