Multimedia chipset processes hi-def video

Targeting mobile multimedia devices, the Nomadik STn8820 application processor provides programmable smart accelerators for high-definition video, multichannel audio, still camera imaging, and 2-D/3-D graphics, together with a 532-MHz ARM1176 CPU core. The STw4820 companion chip provides power management for the processor and peripherals and features a 100-dB audio codec subsystem, accessory detection capabilities, a touchscreen interface, and a high-speed USB-OTG transceiver.

The processor handles video at up to HD 720p resolution and plays all major standards, such as H.264 and VC-1, and its imaging engine produces still images at up to 8-Mpixel resolution. The chip’s audio engines deliver music playback with hi-fi quality, and the display and graphics engines enable 3-D user interfaces with OpenGL-ES2.0 geometry peak performance of 33 million polygons/s.
