Multitouch, multigesture touchscreens aim for high-end and mass markets
The Clearpad 3000 and 1000 Series touchscreens aim to bring capacitive touch sensing to the high-end and mass markets, respectively. The 3000 series offers high-resolution multitouch multifinger gesture-sensing capability for high-end mobile products, while the Series 1000 provides a low-cost solution with single-finger and limited two-finger gestures for mass-market applications. Both are supported with design-in services to simplify product realization,
Able to distinguish up to 10 simultaneous finger touches as well as complex multifinger gestures such as pinch and rotate, 3000 Series sensors suit next generation 3D graphical user interfaces. Nearly borderless, the 0.300-mm-thick touchpads are based on a proprietary technology that features 48 sensing channels and advanced power management. It fits screen sizes to 8 in. diagonal with ±1-mm sensing accuracy, low power consumption (5 mA in full active mode, 150 µA nominal, and 12 µA in deep sleep mode).
The 1000 Series sensors support single-finger gestures — such as tap, double tap, tap and slide, pinch, press and flick — with the Enhanced Gesture Recognition (EGR) option. They feature an accuracy of ±1 mm center / ±2 mm edge, require no side borders, and are available in sizes to 4.3 in. diagonal. Power consumption is 1.2 mA in full active mode. (1000 Series, from $2 / diag. in. — samples available now; 3000 Series — samples available November.)
