Murata Power dc/dc PoL module adopts Powervation’s digital controller technology

Cork, Ireland, and San Jose, CA, December 11, 2013: Powervation Ltd. (www.powervation.com ), announced that its PV3012 digital controller is being used by leading power supply innovator, Murata Power Solutions in a new dc/dc module. OKLF-T/25-W12N-C is a non-isolated, dc/dc converter delivering a maximum of 25 A at an output of 1.2 V, when operating up to 70°C with a 200-lfm airflow. The adjustable outputs provide precision regulation from 0.69 to 3.63 V over a wide input range (6.5 to 14 V). The new modules are for powering the latest FPGAs and ASICs used in networking, telecom, and computing applications.

Murata Power Solutions’ OKLF 25-A module, is the first device in the series and is a complete power solution that delivers ultra-fast load transient response, exceptional de-rating performance, and >90% typical efficiency in a high power density form-factor. The module is a complete, stand-alone power supply; with the use of the PV3012 digital control IC, it provides a full-line of protection features and precision set-point accuracy.

“Our OKLF 25 A module extends the ease of design-in of POL converters,” said Bill Smith, Director of Marketing, Board Mount Power, for Murata Power Solutions. “With the Powervation controller, our module delivers precision set-point accuracy of ±0.5% over line, load, and temperature range – far better than analog options. Additionally, this new offering adds value by the use of space saving elevated inductors and Powervation’s Auto-Control, while also achieving exceptional de-rating performance.”

Powervation’s Auto-Control is the industry’s leading intelligent auto-tuning technology. The patented adaptive compensation technology optimizes dynamic performance and system stability in real-time without requiring any noise injection or the drawbacks of periodic techniques. This is a key benefit for modules and other designs that drive unknown or variable output loads, and addresses the challenges of load parameter drift that occurs over temperature and time.

Comments Powervation’s Vice President of Product Marketing, David New: “With the support of the Okami footprint and Auto-Control, the OKLF 25 A offers a solution that is stable over a wide range of applications, user loading, various capacitor types, and host board parasitics. Additionally, many current module users following the DOSA standard are able to use this module to take advantage of the performance of digital power without redesigning their system.”

The OKLF-T/25-W12N-C power module is available now from Murata Power Solutions. The PV3012 and other digital control ICs are available from Powervation.
