According to Gibson’s website, this Memory Cable is considered to be “inspiration insurance” for when you write that killer melody or lick you never want to forget. This digital audio recording gadget will store all your musical creativity while you’re jamming and is compatible with guitars, basses, drum machines, synthesizers, line-level signals, and just about any instrument that contains a ¼ output jack. It uses TASCAM’s advanced recording technology that provides quality sound.

You don’t have to plug this device into your amp to record through the low-capacitance cable. It spectacularly produces uncompressed recordings that are of a professional CD caliber, storing sound at 44.1-kHz/16-bit fidelity. There is also an output function that allows users to connect it to a mixer bus to record during rehearsal sessions. It stores over 13 hours of audio recordings with an internal 4-Gbyte MicroSD card and contains premium studio-grade A/D converters. Unfortunately, you can’t play the audio back directly on the device. You must hook it up to your computer to hear the sounds you’ve just recorded. Users can directly transfer files from MicroSD card to their computers via a card reader, and can be uploaded to smartphones with a card reader and USB cable.

The WAV file formats recorded are Mac/Windows/iOS/Android compatible, recording approximately 10 to13 hours of material. Once you’ve recorded the maximum time of audio, make sure to immediately upload the files to your computer; this device starts overwriting the audio files once it has reached its full capacity. This technology works extremely well when you’re transferring audio-to-computer multitrack recording programs like Garageband, ProTools, and/or Logic.

The Memory Cable requires an AA main battery to enable a battery life of 8 hours. There is an LR44 battery for Real Time Clock (RTC) functions that provides time/date stamps for all your files, capable of holding its charge for up to 1 year.

Starting May 15, The Memory Cable will be available for $99.
