Nano-based LEDs give designers broader color palette
Based on quantum-dot technology, lamp-style and surface-mount devicesavailable initially in 11 standard colors and 3 whites
The evidot QDL5R lamp-style and QDSAN surface-mount LED series offer designers more total color possibilities than previously, with an expanded palette of colors and a wider range of whites. Using nanotechnology, the LEDs’ light emissions can be tuned more narrowly than standard phosphors, thus providing vivid colors for matching specific color requirements and brighter colors for products using plastics and filters.

The LEDs are manufactured with quantum dots engineered to convert one light source into a broad range of custom or standard colors. Initially there are 11 standard colors ranging across the spectrum from pink to plum and three whites: candlelight, pearl, and ice.
The QDL5R lamp-style LEDs have a viewing angle of 30 and range in typical luminous intensity from 4,019 mcd for cobalt blue to 1,313 mcd for cranberry. A candlelight-white device delivers 3,379 mcd typically, power dissipation is 120 mW with a 3-V forward voltage, and operating temperature range is −35° to 80°C.
The QDSAN surface-mount devices have a 120° viewing angle and come in a chip LED package measuring 3.5 x 2.8 x 1.9 mm. Their typical luminous intensity ranges from 511 mcd for aqua to 119 mcd for cranberry. (From approximately $0.50 ea / small quantity — stock to 10 weeks ARO depending on quantity and color.)
