There is nothing more annoying than sending someone a picture or video and getting back a simple “Ha,” or “Lol.” Despite the original purpose of technology, nowadays we rarely have the experience of seeing somebody’s immediate reaction to something you’ve shared—which is kind of the whole reason you shared it to begin with.
The creators of the Reactr app have discovered a way to fix this problem, making the experience of video sharing much more personal.
Not as personal as face to face conversation, but it’s 2014, that’s barely a thing anymore.
Like other visual-based mobile apps, including Samba or Snapchat, Reactr provides a personal connection through the sharing of pictures or videos. Using Reactr, you can see your friends react to the videos and other images that you share with them every day.
So let’s say you want to send a friend a photo using the new app. After opening Reactr and selecting your photo, you have to choose the type of reaction you want to see from your friend: either a recorded video reaction, or a reaction photo. Once you choose this, the photo will send, and you get back your friends’ reaction.
“The idea for Reactr came after I had sent a funny picture to my friends only to receive countless 'Haha,' 'OMG' and 'LOL' responses,” said Reactr creator and Eyepatch Inc President Ash Gilpin, on Apple’s Unofficial Weblog. “I realized I was missing out on some priceless reactions. Reactr provides a platform for allowing a more natural form of interaction between people, through photos and videos.”
Gilpin isn’t wrong; it’s so much more personal to see somebody react than it is to just get back the obligatory “Wow, that’s funny” text. For those who are worried about breaches of privacy, users of the app always have the option not to share their reactions if they don’t want to, and unlike some of the similar apps, there’s no way you can receive messages from strangers, meaning your reactions will only be seen by you and your friends.
According to the app’s press release, the “one of a kind” app aims to elevate the current level of social media sharing; to add “a new dimension to sharing photos and capturing priceless moments otherwise lost.”
If you’re interested, the app is available for both iOS and Android devices, and can be freely downloaded and either the App Store or Google Play.
