Maybe you know it as “Fat Tuesday” or if you’re a religious observer, the day before Ash Wednesday.
Regardless of what you call it, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mardi Gras draws in tourists for back-to-back parades that go on for days (along with bead wearing and alcohol consumption).
Here’s a question.
What do you do when you’re visiting New Orleans for Mardi Gras and really, really need to use the bathroom?
Visitors have been avoiding public urination (hopefully) and use of un-hygienic port-a-potties by using the AirPnP App.
When there aren’t enough bathrooms nearby for the amount of people in a particular location, AirPnP lets residences and businesses rent out their own bathroom for a small fee to nearby people who really need to go.
The mobile-optimized web app allows users to find an available restroom quickly and even rate their pee experience.
A user rates their bathroom experience with the app.
Almost 2,000 people signed up to use the app and about 20 toilets have been added.
The app was founded by Max Gaudin, CEO/CTO of Sidework and experienced web developer and hacker and Travis Laurendine, founder of CODEMKRS, Volnado, and the White House Champion of Change for Civic Hacking.
Gaudin and Laurendine were both born and raised in New Orleans and often experienced the struggle of having nowhere to urinate at Mardi Gras. So, voila, they came up with this digital bathroom rental service.
