This week’s roundup of new products covers a range of passive components, including aluminum electrolytic capacitors, DC-Link film capacitors, current-sense shunt resistors, and inductors. Listed in alphabetical order by company name, other new products highlighted include a new 3D magnetometer, an AI system-on-chip (SoC), a power supply card, pushbutton switches, a sensor hub microcontroller (MCU), and sink controllers.

Aitech Systems has released a high-efficiency U-P2330 power supply card (PSC) to support the power requirements of The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA). As a compatible power supply for a range of SOSA single-board computers (SBCs) and GPGPU-based boards, the new 3U PSC can be easily integrated as the main power supply in these open standards-based embedded systems, said the company. Key specs include a high-power output of up to 600 W and high efficiency up to 88%. In addition, the PSC can integrate an optional sharing mechanism, per VITA 62, which enables two power supplies to be operated in parallel and provides redundant operation (ORing) with a maximum power output of up to 1200 W, said the company. It also offers an optional holdup capacitor bank that can shut down the system in the event of power outage, while the supply redundancy protection ensures high-power-supply resiliency. The PSC is compliant with MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-1275.

Ambarella, Inc.’s CV2FS automotive AI perception SoC has achieved ASIL C certification from external auditor exida. The company said this functional safety level is more stringent than the ASIL B certifications typically found in this class of AI SoCs for front ADAS to Level 4 systems, delivering high levels of safety to automotive and robotics Tier-1s and OEMs. Exida certified that the CV2FS meets the ASIL C requirements of the ISO 26262 automotive functional safety standard for both ASIL C Systematic Capability and ASIL C Diagnostic Coverage. The CV2FS is designed with Ambarella’s algorithm-first approach to address forward-facing monocular and stereovision ADAS cameras, as well as computer vision ECUs for L2+ and higher levels of autonomy, AI acceleration in automotive domain controllers, electronic mirrors with blind spot detection (BSD), and interior driver and cabin monitoring (DMS and OMS) systems. The CV2FS edge AI SoC is available now for sampling and mass production.

Ceva, Inc. has added the FSP201 high-performance and low-power sensor hub MCU to its family of sensor fusion products. The new MCU delivers precise, accurate sensor fusion for motion tracking, heading, and orientation detection and can be used in consumer robotics and other emerging smart devices that use sensor fusion technologies, including XR glasses, 3D audio headsets, and six-axis motion use cases across IoT and the metaverse. The FSP201 combines the company’s MotionEngine sensor processing software with a low-power 32-bit Arm Cortex M23 MCU. It offers manufacturers the flexibility to choose from a pre-qualified list of external six-axis IMU sensors (accelerometer plus gyroscope) from different sensor suppliers and to provide features such as correction smoothing, auto-centering, tilt independent heading, inclination detection (full 3DOF robot orientation), and dynamic calibration. It uses I2C and UART industry interfaces for chip connectivity. For greater flexibility, the device can be placed directly on the product’s main circuit board or designed into a separate module. The FSP201 is code-compatible with the BNO08X series of nine-axis sensor system-in-package (SIP) products, which makes it easier for developers to migrate to a 6-axis-based solution that do not require nine-axis sensor fusion, said Ceva. The FSP201 is available for sampling along with documentation and evaluation tools via the company’s designated distributors.

CUI Devices’ Motion Group said the latest addition to its AMT incremental encoder family address current silicon supply-chain constraints. “Based on the existing AMT11 series package, the new AMT11A series is not subject to silicon-related lead-time constraints and can serve as a drop-in replacement for AMT11 encoder models,” said the company. Targeting automation, industrial, and robotics applications, the AMT11A encoders offer 16 quadrature resolutions from 96 to 4096 PPR, selectable via an on-board DIP switch. The AMT11A series, based on the company’s proprietary capacitive ASIC technology, features compact radial and axial package types with a locking hub for ease of installation and low power consumption of 16 mA at 5 V. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 125°C. Differential line driver versions are available. The company also offers the AMT11A-V kit comprised of nine different sleeve bore options from 2 mm to 8 mm, two mounting tools, and two baseplates with multiple pre-drilled mounting hole patterns to mate with a wide range of motors. The AMT11A series is available now with prices starting at $28.46 each at 50 pieces through distribution. Lead time is from stock to 10 weeks.

Diodes Inc. has extended its portfolio of USB power delivery (PD) solutions with two new high-performance USB PD3.0 sink controller ICs. The AP33771 and AP33772 sink controllers target home appliances and cordless power tools, enabling the appropriate voltage level via USB-C. They have an operating voltage range of 3.3 V to 24 V. The AP33771’s pin-driven setting of required voltages and power makes it easier to use, while the AP33772 provides greater flexibility for more sophisticated designs that use a µC (with an I²C interface included), said the company. The AP33771’s preloaded power menu consists of eight different output voltages and 10 different power levels. It also provides 5-V charging when connected to a classic USB Type-A charger, as well as supporting USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable voltage drop compensation. These new products have built-in application firmware for automatic PD3.0 negotiation with the attached USB PD3.0 compliant charger to obtain the required power level. LED lighting (driven by one of their GPIOs) enables indication of the charging state and potential fault situation. Both devices, supplied in 24-pin W-QFN4040 packages, are priced at $0.5201 in quantities of 1,000. Evaluation boards are available through Diodes’ sales channel on request.

EAO has upgraded its Series 82 family of anti-vandal pushbutton switches with high-contrast and vivid illuminated symbols for status indication or easy location. Status or visual HMI feedback is important in applications such as food and beverage equipment, measurement machinery, medical devices, and heavy-duty or special vehicles, said EAO. The illuminated symbols for pushbuttons also provide fast visual recognition of operational status and are available with green, blue, white, or red/green LEDs with standard symbols. Other symbols are available on request. The series offers both single and bi-color LEDs. The devices provide IP65/IP67 protection, making them suited for public use and harsh industrial applications.

Exxelia has expanded its range of CUBISIC aluminum electrolytic capacitors with the introduction of the HTLP (High Temperature Low Profile) version. The company claims the CUBISIC HTLP, in a thin rectangular packaging, offers the highest energy density in this class of capacitors, with a wide operating temperature range of -55° to 125°C. The new capacitors offer up to 60% more capacity than any other rectangular electrolytic capacitor, in the same volume, while having a 5,000-hour life span, said the company. Key specs include a capacitance range of 140 μF to 58,000 μF and voltage ratings from 7.5 V to 350 V. The capacitor series also can withstand 20 g vibrations and is low-pressure qualified, making it compatible to 92,000 feet in altitude. These capacitors are suited for integration into cockpits, actuators, and power generation in commercial and military aircraft as well as radar and laser systems. RoHS-compliant versions are available.

Melexis has launched the MLX90397, a three-dimensional (3D) magnetometer for cost-efficient position sensing, targeting battery-powered appliances in consumer and industrial applications such as power tools, gaming consoles, computer peripherals, home automation systems (window/door opening detection), energy metering (for anti-tampering purposes), and the controls for domestic appliances. The MLX90397, built on the Triaxis 3D Hall-effect technology, is a 16-bit three-axis sensor device that has a magnetic field range reaching 50 mT (with an adaptive range on the z-axis of up to 200 mT). The user can choose the fields to measure among BX, BY, BZ, temperature or a combination. The captured data are converted into a digital form and then transferred over an I2C interface. The sensor features a a low 7 nA power-down current, a wide supply voltage from 1.7 to 3.6 V, and a typical RMS noise of 2 µT for a 50 mT range. The device is designed to address 1.8/2.2/3.3-V applications and provides flexibility on the selection of the battery type, while ensuring extended usage, said Diodes. The operating temperature range is 40°C to 105°C. The MLX90397, housed in a surface-mount 8-pin UTDFN package, measures 2.0 × 2.5 mm with a 0.4-mm height.

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has enhanced the CSSK0612 current-sense shunt resistors with an improved temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) down to 100 ppm for the full resistance range from 0.5 milliohm to 5 milliohm. This makes the all-metal, four-terminal CSSK0612 suited for power monitoring, management, and control for a wide range of end products. “Component TCR is the key measurement parameter for temperature stability of a resistor,” said Stackpole, and “current sensing resistors must balance the efficiency requirements of low resistance values, and high current handling with the precision and accuracy requirements of the sensing circuit.” Pricing for the CSSK0612 is $0.28 each with a 1% tolerance. STMicroelectronics and Sensory Inc., a provider of embedded speech recognition technology and an ST Authorized Partner, have announced a collaboration that is expected to drive mass-market adoption of embedded voice control via ST’s STM32Cube software ecosystem. Designers using the STM32 MCU will be able to develop and prototype intuitive voice-based user interfaces for a variety of smart embedded products by leveraging Sensory’s voice-control technologies, including the new VoiceHub online portal that supports embedded speech-recognition models using custom wake words, voice-control command sets, and large natural-language grammars in almost twenty languages and dialects. The solution is based on an STM32Cube software extension package and runs on a high-performance STM32H7 MCU. Click here for ST’s new software package dedicated to voice-user interfaces.

TDK Corp. has designed the new TFM201208BLE series of inductors for space-constrained smartphone power circuits. These are available in inductance values of 0.24, 0.33 and 0.47 µH versions. The new inductors offer significantly better electrical properties than the previous TFM201208BLD products in terms of their current and resistance levels, thanks to the company’s metallic magnetic material technology and structural design, said TDK. They provide a 10% higher rated current of 5.5 A (Isat), plus a 22% lower DC resistance of 25 mΩ compared with conventional products (based on 0.33-µH inductor models). The inductors measure 2.0 (L) × 1.2 (W) × 0.8 mm (H). Mass production will begin in June 2022. TDK’s overall TFM series offers a variety of inductors for automotive applications, including products with 40-V voltage ratings for use in electric-vehicle (EV) powertrains.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has added a low-profile, AEC-Q200 qualified DC-Link metallized polypropylene film capacitor for high-humidity automotive applications. The Vishay Roederstein MKP1848Se DC-Link is touted as the first such device to withstand temperature humidity bias (THB) testing of 60°C/93% relative humidity for 56 days at rated voltage. The automotive-grade capacitor is available in four heights — 12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm, and 24 mm — and 12 standard dimension options. The capacitor offers a capacitance range from 1 µF to 75 µF and low ESR down to 3 mΩ. The RoHS-compliant device provides high ripple current capabilities up to 27 A and rated voltages of 500 VDC, 700 VDC, 900 VDC, and 1200 VDC at 85 °C. The radial capacitor is suited for space-constrained automotive applications, including HVAC systems, on-board and inductive battery charging systems, air conditioning compressors, and motor drives for EVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). Samples and production quantities are available now, with a lead time of 20 weeks. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.95 per pieces.
