Bourns, Inc. has introduced two new automotive-grade, high-current shielded power inductor series that offer enhanced mechanical strength for harsh vibration application environments. The Model SRP1038WA and SRP1265WA shielded power inductor series are designed with a 50 percent wider side terminal leadframe that is capable of withstanding 15-G typical or 30-G peak vibrations, which exceeds the 5 G demanded by the AEC-Q200 standard by a factor of three and six times, respectively, said Bourns. Vibration testing was conducted according to MIL-STD-202 Method 204. The two series also are said to offer high saturation current, low DC resistance, low buzz noise, and excellent temperature stability over a wide temperature range of –55°C to 165°C. The maximum operating temperature of 165°C is 10 percent higher than standard  Model SRP-A power inductors and the new models provide more headroom to maintain the rated operating current even under challenging environmental conditions, said the company. Applications for AEC-Q200 compliant shielded power inductors include power management and EMI filtering in a range of consumer, vehicle, industrial, and telecom electronics applications.

Diodes Inc. has released two new series of automotive-compliant synchronous buck converters. With 2-A and 3-A current ratings respectively, the AP6320xQ and AP6330xQ devices support a wide input voltage range from 3.8 V to 32 V. They target point-of-load (PoL) applications, including powertrains, instrumentation clusters, telematics, and infotainment systems. They can also be used in automotive body electronics and lighting, as well as advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) implementations. The AP6320xQ devices, housed in TSOT26 packages, integrate 125/68 mΩ high/low-side power MOSFETs and the AP6330xQ devices integrate 70/40 mΩ high/low-side power MOSFETs, enabling both to deliver high-efficiency step-down DC-DC conversion, while keeping the external component count to a minimum, said the company. The buck converters use a proprietary gate driver arrangement that is said to mitigate switching node ringing effects, without extending MOSFET turn-on and turn-off times. “This considerably reduces the high frequency radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise normally associated with MOSFET switching,” said Diodes. Other features include a frequency spread spectrum (FSS) function and a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode, and integrated protection circuitry. The devices enable a quiescent current (IQ) of 22 μA (typical), which is almost half that of most competing devices, according to the company. This enhances conversion efficiency levels when under light load situations. The devices are AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified, PPAP capable. In 1,000 piece quantities, the AP6320xQ is priced at $0.40 and the AP6330xQ is priced at $0.43.

Flex Power Modules has added new variants to its PKE-A series of DC/DC converters. Three new parts expand the 2” × 1” encapsulated, through-hole DC/DC converter line with single outputs of 24 V (21.6-26.4 V), 48 V (43.2-52.8 V), and 54 V (48.6-59.4 V). The parts retain the wide 8:1 input range of the PKE8000A series for nominal inputs of 12 V, 24 V, 28 V or 48 V for a range of industrial, transportation, RFPA, and IT applications. The PKE8000A series features 2250 V input/output isolation rating according to IEC/UL 62368-1 and is protected against input overvoltage and output overload, short circuit, over-voltage, and over-temperature. A remote-control pin is provided along with voltage trim. Encapsulation provides mechanical protection in environments with high shock and vibration levels or with high dust/humidity. Maximum case operating temperature is 115 °C with derating. The new PKE8000A variants will be available in OEM quantities in March 2022.

Nexperia has expanded its portfolio of automotive Ethernet ESD protection devices. The three new devices are AEC-Q101 qualified and OPEN Alliance IEEE 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1 compliant. These devices are designed to protect two bus lines from damage caused by ESD and other transients. The silicon-based PESD2ETH1GXT-Q, PESD1ETH1GLS-Q and PESD1ETH1GXLS-Q ESD protectors are said to offer several advantages over alternative ESD protection solutions like varistors. These include greater reliability, and an improved diode capacitance of 1 pF (max) to ensure better signal integrity, said Nexperia. This is in combination with the silicon technology and snap-back behavior that reduces clamping voltage and residual current when compared to other competing products, said the company. Under test conditions, they outperform the AEC-Q101 qualification standard by a factor of 2×. They are available in leaded (SOT23) and leadless (DFN1006BD-2 / SOD882BD) packages. The leadless package has side-wettable flanks that enable automatic optical inspection (AOI) for a higher assembly yield, said the company.
