New ‘smart’ deodorant stick invented by rocket scientists achieves funding on Kickstarter

One-of-a-kind device getting ready to hit the shelves

What’s more shocking — the fact that there’s actually a “smart” deodorant stick coming to market, or that it was invented by two rocket scientists?

Up-close ClickStick
There’s a lot to like about the ClickStick, which one does not often say about a deodorant dispenser. For one, its single button on the side doles out “measured” doses of gel deodorant, as opposed to the messy, runny globs of its competitors.

ClickStick also has a smartphone app that allows users to calculate how much deodorant they need to put on. It also tracks usage, records how much is left, and (naturally) allows easy ordering of refills.

As if that’s not enough, there’s an LED light inside the device should one ever wish to turn the dispenser on and leave it out as room décor.

All gimmicks and jokes aside, what makes the ClickStick cover-worthy is how well thought out it is. Rocket scientists and company co-founders Gilad Arwatz and Carla Bahri explain on their (just completed and successfully funded) Kickstarter page that the point of the dispenser giving out measured amounts of deodorant is that these gels have chemicals in them that get absorbed by the skin. Limiting the amount that gets into the body lessens the risk of possible side effects.

Also, to save power, the ClickStick is turned off when its cap is placed back on. A microprocessor is in the bottom of the Stick, and a pair of AAA batteries is estimated to last the user a full year.

The biggest reason to use ClickStick, though, is to save the world. Well, a bit more accurately, it’s environmentally friendly in the sense that it is reusable: Using ClickStick can reduce disposable plastic use by as much as 90%. And while ClickStick can be used with competitor refills, when users order the ClickStick-branded refill, 30% of material is saved.
