According to Autoweek magazine coverage of the N.Y. auto show, the 2016 RAV4 will have some new electronic options. It is one of the first Toyota vehicles to get Toyota Safety Sense, a suite of features including pre-collision system, forward collision warning, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, pedestrian pre-collision system, and radar cruise control. TSS is standard on the RAV4 Limited models, optional on the rest.
The interesting thing about this for me is the price. The TSS system costs approximately $300 for compact cars and $500 for midsized and premium models. The RAV4 is considered a compact. For all that technology $300 is a really low price. I’m sure it will be very popular and perhaps other auto makers will follow this lead. Better get your components ready for a big leap in automotive volume. The 2016 RAV4 launches this fall.
