New wireless charging bowl by Intel

Charge your electronics just by dropping them in

Most days as soon as I get home, before I promptly throw myself on the couch and refuse to be a person, I literally fling whatever’s in my hands at that little bowl we all have next to the door. And as my phone is always in my hands, this means that it sits there all night, slowly dying, and then I have to charge it all day at work before the process repeats. But according to CNET, Intel may have solved my problem during CES 2014, where they showed off a small wireless bowl that can charge devices you drop in it.

During Intel’s keynote speech at CES 2014, CEO Brian Krzanich talked about problems that could be solved by making common items smarter, where he mentioned the bowl. It’s a small thing, but it would be incredibly useful for most people.

Intel’s charging bowl employs magnetic resonance technology, making it possible to charge multiple devices simultaneously. At the moment though, the charging bowl just charges up their smart headset, which will begin to charge automatically when it’s dropped it. But the company reportedly has plans in the works to update the item so it could charge phones, tablets and even Intel Ultrabooks.

There’s still no word on when the bowl will become commercially available, or what kind of cost we’re looking at. I would totally buy one, though—let’s hope they’re not astronomically expensive.
