Novel thermal management device protects board-level components
Aluminum nitride solution offers simple integration
A thermally conductive aluminum nitride chip with metallized terminals, the Therma-Bridge thermal management device offers a simple yet novel solution for transporting heat from one location to another on a PCB. The two-terminal part protects components against heat by attaching one terminal to the heat source and the other to a thermal plane or heat sink, with heat traveling through PCB vias to optimize control over board temperature.
The device comes in case sizes from 0505 to 3725, provides thermal resistances from 15 to 31°C/W (0.015 in. thick), and thermal conductivity from 67 mW/°C to 32 mW/°C. Terminals are constructed from RoHS-compatible platinum silver (PtAg), which suits epoxy and solder attachment, as well as solder-coated PtAg for solder attachment.
