Novosense Microelectronics has extended its family of digital isolators with quad-channel devices that meet the performance and protection requirements for industrial and automotive applications. The new NSI824xWx high-reliability digital isolators provide protection and level shifting in applications, such as solar inverters, energy storage, industrial automation and electric vehicles.
The NSI824xWx digital isolators are UL1577-qualified for safety. These ultra-wide body industrial- and automotive-grade isolators offer robust EMC performance with high levels of protection against system-level electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFTs) and voltage surges, Novosense said.
Key features include an insulation voltage up to 8 kVrms, chip-level ESD HBM protection to ±8 kV and common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) up to 200kV/μs. The operating temperature range is -55°C to 125°C.
These digital isolators are available with options for four forward channels, three forward and one reverse channel or two forward and two reverse channels. The default output state on power loss can be set to low or high. The devices support speeds up to 150 Mbits/s and offer a wide input voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V, which is reported to simplify level shift operations by ensuring compatibility with a wide variety of digital interfaces.
In addition, the devices offer low power consumption of 1.5 mA per channel (at speeds of 1 Mbits/s), which helps designers to meet system efficiency targets, according to Novosense.
The latest NSI824x devices also use an adapted capacitive isolator technology. The company attributes its proprietary Adaptive OOK modulation technology to the isolator family’s high performance, including high noise resistance and low EMI.
The NSI824xWx digital isolators are supplied in an SOWW16 package and can support 15-mm creepage distance. They are fully compliant with all relevant UL, CQC, CSA and VDE safety standards. Target industrial automation system applications include industrial control, motor drives, motor control, instrumentation, universal multi-channel isolators, as well as isolated SPI, RS232 and RS485. Automotive target applications include sensors, electric drives, power supplies and battery management systems.
