Now at Mouser: gain Bluetooth smart sensor/hub capabilities with ST’s SPBTLE-RF module

The ST SPBTLE-RF module, now available from Mouser Electronics, is an easy-to-use Bluetooth Smart master/slave network processor module compliant with Bluetooth v4.1.

Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now shipping the SPBTLE-RF network processor module for Bluetooth Smart technology from STMicroelectronics. The low-energy SPBTLE-RF module provides a complete radio frequency (RF) platform in a tiny form factor, integrating a 2.4 GHz RF radio, antenna, and high-frequency and low-power oscillators to optimize the time to market of the final applications.

The ST SPBTLE-RF module, now available from Mouser Electronics, is an easy-to-use Bluetooth Smart master/slave network processor module compliant with Bluetooth v4.1. The module is designed around ST’s BlueNRG-MS network processor and takes advantage of its enhanced features to create a complete RF platform in a small package. The BlueNRG-MS 2.4 GHz radio embeds a non-volatile flash memory which allows upgrading the stack when the device is deployed in the field. The SPBTLE-RF offers a certified (ETSI, FCC, IC) solution to simplify RF and wireless design, allowing engineers to concentrate on creating innovative applications.

The SPBTLE-RF module embeds the entire Bluetooth Smart stack and protocols. The external host application processor, where the application resides, is connected to the module through a standard SPI interface. The SPBTLE-RF module can perform multiple roles simultaneously, and can act as both a Bluetooth Smart sensor and hub device at the same time. With the RF platform fully embedded in the module, engineers can simplify application design, reduce costs by omitting special PCB substrates, and speed time to market by skipping antenna tuning. The SPBTLE-RF can be powered directly with a standard 3 V coin cell battery, a pair of AAA batteries, or any power source from 1.7 to 3.6 V, with optimized results when the embedded high-efficiency DC-DC step-down converter is used.

Mouser is also stocking the X-NUCLEO-IDB05A1 STM32 expansion board and the STEVAL-IDB006V1M USB dongle. The X-NUCLEO-IDB05A1 STM32 expansion board is a Bluetooth Low Energy evaluation board that is compatible with the ST Morpho and Arduino UNO R3 connector layout. The X‑NUCLEO-IDB05A1 interfaces with the STM32 microcontroller via the SPI pin, and engineers can change the default SPI clock, the SPI chip select, and SPI interrupt request (IRQ) by changing one resistor on the evaluation board. The STEVAL-IDB006V1M USB dongle is an evaluation board based on the SPBTLE-RF module. The STEVAL-IDB006V1M is equipped with an STM32L low-power microcontroller to control the BlueNRG and features a USB connector for PC interaction and firmware updates.
