NTC thermistors deliver more options

Bourns has released its POWrTherm NTC thermistor line, offering a wide resistance range and multiple board disc diameters.

Bourns, Inc. has launched its POWrTherm NTC thermistor product line with enhanced high inrush current limiting capabilities. The new line of NTC thermistors consists of seven series, providing a wide resistance range along with several board disc diameter options to help customers select the right product for their specific application requirements.

Consisting of Models BN-LG05YBN-LG08YBN-LG10YBN-LG13YBN-LG15YBN-LG20Y and BN-LG25Y, the POWrTherm NTC thermistors feature a unique construction that uses various metal oxides to form the polycrystalline NTC thermistor bodies that provide superior capabilities in suppressing high inrush currents, said Bourns.

The POWrTherm series, housed in radial-leaded through-hole packages, offer equivalent capacitance up to 1500 μF@240 VAC and a maximum current up to 15 A. The R25 resistance value range is 0.7 Ω – 220 Ω. The devices are UL and/or TÜV recognized, depending on the specific series.

The NTC thermistors are available in different disc sizes, from 5 – 25 mm, to meet a variety of market segment requirements from consumer to industrial. Applications include switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), DC motors, amplifiers and transformers.

“Our new POWrTherm NTC Thermistor solutions utilize the high initial resistance of negative temperature coefficient characteristics to effectively control and minimize unwanted inrush current. This feature proves beneficial in mitigating the potentially harmful effects of excessive current at startup,” said Shawn Yu, product line manager at Bourns Protection Division, in a statement. “Additionally, during regular operation, the resistance of our POWrTherm™ devices significantly decreases, allowing for improved efficiency across a wide range of applications. As power demands continue to grow in modern end products, achieving enhanced efficiency has become increasingly critical.”

All seven POWrTherm NTC thermistor series protectors are available now. They are RoHS compliant and halogen free.
