NXP Semiconductorshas announced it is expanding its range of fully-integrated GSM/GPRS single-chip solutions for the Ultra Low-Cost (ULC) handset market with the Nexperia single chip solution PNX4902. Representing the ULC+ concept, this solution enables a new generation of high-quality, feature-packed cellphones at an ultra-low cost point.
Triband, which is largely taken for granted in the feature-phone segment, is a first in the ultra low-cost market and will enable millions of consumers to enjoy the benefits of worldwide mobile access. Bluetooth support on the other hand ushers in a new era of connectivity for the ULC+ market, allowing the device to communicate with PCs, hands-free headsets and other phones. The integrated 8Ω driver provides 500mW of output power, enabling speakerphone functionality without any external components.
Other key attributes of PNX4902 are its best-in-class RF performance and the industry's lowest power consumption. PNX4902 is based on NXP's Aero transceiver technology which has shipped into over 500 million handsets worldwide, and delivers robust RF performance across commonly encountered stress conditions in the field such as extreme temperature changes and declining battery voltage. Excellent call quality is maintained in both congested, urban environments and in remote areas with sparse network coverage. Features such as SAIC further boost an operator's network capacity. As an indication of PNX4902's world class power consumption, a talk time of 5 hours and standby time of 420 hours are achievable with a small, inexpensive 600mAh battery. This makes possible handset designs that are slim and yet offer excellent autonomy.
