Teenage Engineering's 100-W OD-11 cloud audio and network steaming active hi-fi speaker includes a pair of Nordic nRF51822 systems-on-chip (SoCs) to aid in the speaker's Bluetooth low energy RF remote control. The cube-shaped 26-cm3 speaker streams audio over Wi-Fi from a host device and because of its omnidirectional speaker design, it can operate standalone in any part of a room. For large or adjacent rooms, up to four OD-11s can be connected and controlled by a single remote.
The SoC's ow-power operation enables the remote to have a one-year-plus battery life from a pair of regular AAA batteries. The OD-11 has a recommended retail price of $899 and is available now.
