ON Semiconductor has expanded its RSL10 line of Bluetooth-5-certified radio systems-on-chip (SoCs) with a new, compact system-in-package (SiP) module. The latest member of the RSL10 family includes an RSL10 radio, an antenna, and all required passive components in a single, ready-to-use 6 × 8 × 1.46-mm SiP module for connected IoT applications ranging from wearable technologies such as sports/fitness or mHealth to smart home devices, including smart locks and appliances.
“Certified with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), the RSL10 SIP significantly reduces time to market and development costs by removing the need for any additional RF design considerations,” said ON Semiconductor.
Multi-protocol wireless functionality:
- Rx sensitivity: –94 dBM
- Transmitting power: –17 to 6 dBm
- Supports Bluetooth Low Energy and 2.4-GHz proprietary/custom protocols
- Supports Firmware Over The Air (FOTA)
The RSL10 family of devices is capable of delivering up to 2-Mbits/s data rates with Bluetooth 5 while boasting the industry’s lowest power consumption among like devices, according to the company. The RSL10 uses 7 milliwatts (mW) while in peak receive-power mode and 62.5 nanowatts (nW) in deep-sleep mode.
The RSL10 just set a new standard in the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium’s (EEMBC) ULPMark scores, an industry benchmark for measuring ultra-low power consumption. The RSL10 is the first device “to break 1,000 ULP Marks [1,090 ULPMark CP @ 3 V; 1,260 @ 2.1 V] and produce Core Profile scores more than twice as high as the previous industry leader,” said On Semiconductor.
“With its best-in-class power consumption, it’s not surprising that RSL10 has already been selected for use in a number of applications including energy harvesting and industrial IoT,” according to Michel De Mey, senior director and general manager of Hearing, Consumer Health, and Bluetooth Connectivity solutions at ON Semiconductor. “By adding a new system-in-package that significantly reduces design efforts, costs, and time to market, the possibilities for RSL10 are endless.”
Designers can order samples of the RSL10 SiP (51-pin 6 × 8 × 1.4- mm package) or an evaluation board by contacting ON Semiconductor sales or any of its authorized distributors.
