ON Semiconductor offers STK984-190-E motor drive module for automotive

Power-integrated module drives three-phase BLDC motors at up to 300 W

By Jim Harrison

Modern gas, diesel, and hybrid automobiles often use efficient electric motors for oil and water pumps and for windshield wipers and fans. The reason they can do so is the availability of low-cost, reliable, compact, and very efficient three-phase motor driver electronics.

The STK984-190-E motor driver module comes in a DIP-S3 package measuring 29.6 x 18.2 x 4.3 mm. Optimized for driving three-phase brushless DC motors, the module has six 40-V, 30-A MOSFETs with 85-A pulse ratings, configured as a three-phase bridge. An additional 40-V, 30-A high-side FET provides reverse battery protection. The circuit can power 12-V, 300-W motors.

Used in combination with a motor controller IC, designers can build high-efficiency BLDC solutions with excellent thermal performance, built-in diagnostics, and a small PCB size. Operating temperature is −40°C to 150°C, drain-to-source on-resistance is 7.6 mΩ, and the zero-gate-voltage drain current is 1.0 µA. Input capacitance is 1,725 pf. The integrated MOSFETs are all AEC-Q101-qualified. The module is priced at $3.50 ea/16.
