ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), driving energy efficient innovations, will highlight IoT solutions created around the Intel® Quark™ processor family for a wide variety of IoT applications.
The expansion of the Intel® Quark™ processors to IoT extends intelligent computing to a new spectrum of devices requiring lower power consumption for sensor input and data actuation applications. The Intel® Quark™ processors for IoT provide flexible, low-power computing for a wide variety of small-form-factor applications bringing low-cost connectivity, integration, and compatibility to the next wave of intelligent things.
ON Semiconductor has combined Intel® Quark™ processors with its motor drive and industry leading power management solutions, and extensive knowledge of motor control algorithms to implement the Direct Torque Control Space Vector Modulation (DTC-SVM) motor control platform for Brushless DC (BLDC) and AC inverter motors. The platform couples an ON Semiconductor Intelligent Power Module (IPM) with an Intel® Quark™ microcontroller D1000. It enables high dynamic performance at low speed and high torque, a 10 percent reduction in switching losses, and a 10x latency reduction.
“We are proud to work with Intel as they share a similar strategic vision of enabling the Internet of Things,” said David Somo, vice president corporate marketing for ON Semiconductor. “Our collaboration with Intel has led to rapid advancements in system architecture and increased total performance in motor control solutions addressing a variety of applications. Intel’s IA architecture spans the edge to cloud computing spectrum and benefits from a comprehensive development tools ecosystem that simplifies and accelerates customer development.”
“The newest Intel® Quark™ microcontrollers provide flexible, low-power computing for a wide variety of IoT applications, said Dipti Vachani , vice president and general manager, Intel Quark Solutions Division. “ON Semiconductor’s Intel-powered IoT solutions will enable valuable additions to the hardware, software, and development ecosystem required for end product developers to rapidly introduce innovative new products to market.”
