Semtech Corp. recently announced open registration at its LoRaWAN Academy for everyone, including students, engineers, developers, and enterprises. It targets beginner- to intermediate-level developers looking to learn more about LoRa technology and the LoRaWAN protocol.
The low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) market is forecast to grow from about $1.5 billion in 2018 to $65 billion by 2025, according to Global Market Insights, Inc., driven by the growing deployment of LPWA technologies — including LoRa, NB-IoT, and LTE-M — that offer a wide range of connectivity options. North America is expected to dominate the LPWAN market with a share of over 40% in 2025 thanks to smartphone penetration and advanced IoT infrastructure.
“LPWAN networks are becoming very popular among enterprises to support various internet of things (IoT) use cases for verticals including health care, manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, and utilities,” according to the report.
The LoRaWAN Academy, launched in late 2017, initially targeted universities, enabling them to implement the LoRaWAN Academy curriculum to prepare students for IoT jobs by training them on developing LoRa-based solutions and the open LoRaWAN protocol.
Now, Semtech is extending the program to anyone who is interested in building LoRa-based applications. The academy provides free educational modules to help individuals and enterprises develop IoT applications using LoRa-based technologies. The modules are designed to help users get up to speed fast using the LoRa technology and Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology .
The program consists of 10 modules of self-paced online classes that includes four to eight hours of video lectures, supplemental reading materials, and hands-on assignments for each unit. At the end of the program, developers build real-world IoT applications in a hands-on applied research project.
Visit Semtech’s LoRa Developer Portal for more information about LoRa technology and the on-demand training program. Semtech is a founding member of the LoRa Alliance , a non-profit association of more than 500 member companies that are driving large-scale deployment of LPWAN IoT through the development of the LoRaWAN open standard.
