Optical connectors, jacks simplify panel design

Cliff Electronics has made available a wide range of optical connectors and jacks for high-quality audio systems, broadcast, AV installations, home theater, communications, networking, medical equipment, industrial control, and data acquisition.

Cliff’s Feedthrough connector series includes SC Simplex, LC Duplex, and Toslink EIAJ fiber-optic connection options. They are available in plastic or rugged metal shells and are designed to fit into industry-standard 24-mm-diameter XLR connector panel cutout. That simplifies panel design and improves design aesthetics.

These optical connectors are available in a number of options, including RJ45-, HDMI-, BNC-, and USB-3.0-compliant single- and dual-USB versions. Cliff is also offering system integrators 1U, 19-in. rack panels pre-assembled with up to 16 Feedthrough connectors to simplify system assembly and reduce manufacturing time, component count, and cost.

The company also offers single- and dual-optical transmitter and receiver jacks for PCB mounting, and some models have a self-tapping hole for panel mounting. These optical jacks conform to the EIAJ/JEITA rectangular standard CP-1201.

Cliff also manufactures molded optical lead assemblies for Toslink cables for use with its optical jacks. Toshiba Link or Toslink optical audio data cables conform to the standard audio interface widely used in consumer devices like CD players, DVD players, television set-top boxes, game consoles, computers, and audio-visual receivers.

“Optical jacks are virtually unaffected by noise when transmitting and receiving signals between digital audio equipment and data systems,” said John Hall, managing director at Cliff Electronics. “That’s why they continue to be adopted in portable audio equipment, data centers, and instrumentation systems.”
