Designed for automotive, medical, and industrial applications, C&K has developed a new optical rotary encoder, the ENC Series 24-position optical encoder with an integrated pushbutton. The ENC Series optical encoder switch was developed as an improvement to its 16-position devices. In addition to adding 50% more detent positions, the 24-position encoder also includes a right-angle connector socket for easier installation.
The integrated pushbutton, activated by pressing the encoder shaft downward, makes the encoder a means of easy interface control.
The 24-position center select switch offers a smooth haptic feel that allows for fast and precise rotation, enabling accurate responsiveness to the user’s input for applications such as mode selection or menu navigation, said C&K. It also offers a 2-bit Gray code output to make it easy to monitor direction and magnitude of rotation through any microcontroller.
Key specs include a contact rating of 5 VDC, 10 mA; a contact resistance of 10 ohm max, and insulation resistance of 10 Mohm. The electrical life is 300,000 cycles. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 90°C. Special options and custom requests are available.
The encoders can be used in range of automotive applications such as entertainment clusters, navigation, and volume control knobs. They are suited for medical devices such as menu navigation, power cycling, and intensity tuning, and industrial applications like mode selection in control panels and other similar functions.
