Optical flag switches replace mechanicals
The OPB680 and OPB690 are part of a line of optical flag switches that
are designed to replace mechanical switches. The 680 is pc-board mounted
while the 690 features snap-in mounting with an integral connector for
easy connection. Both versions comprise an infrared LED and npn
phototransistor. A lever arm actuated flag interrupts the infrared light
beam–switching the transistor between output states. The devices' input
diode has a forward current of 50 mA (peak = 3 A), a reverse dc voltage of
2 V, and a power dissipation of 100 mW. The output phototransistor has a
collector-emitter voltage of 30 V, a collector dc current of 30 mA, and a
power dissipation of 200 mW. Lever arms and spring torques can be designed
for custom applications. (OPB680, $1.65 ea/1,000; OPB690, $2.15 ea/1,
000–available now.) Optek Technology, Inc. Carrollton, TX Andrew Kahn
