Optical isolator eliminates feedback

A single-mode optical isolator virtually eliminates optical feedback and
reduces system intensity and phase noise in laser and fiber
amplifier-based systems. The device operates in the 1,550-nm wavelength
range and provides an isolation of greater than 42 dB over a 25-nm
bandwidth when measured at 25 degreesC. Packaged in plated Kovar and
stainless steel, the in-line isolator is designed to withstand rugged
handling and has an operating temperature range of -15 degrees to 65
degreesC. The 3-in.-long device uses beveling, an anti-reflective coating,
and precisely aligned optical interfaces to achieve a return loss of
greater than 60 dB and an insertion loss of less than or equal to 0.6 dB
