Osram Opto Semiconductors has launched the first products in its new Ostune LED family with the introduction of two white LEDs that cover a wide color temperature range. The new LEDs deliver light variants from bluish cool white to reddish warm white for ambient lighting in vehicles. The LEDs offer a coloring rending index (CRI) of more than 90, the highest CRI currently available for automotive applications, according to Osram.
“Ambient lighting is becoming increasingly important with each new generation of vehicles,” said Hermann Senninger, marketing manager for Automotive Interior at Osram Opto Semiconductors in a statement.
The new Ostune E1608 and E3030 LEDs offer both an energy efficient and space-saving alternative to the traditional halogen lamps used in automotive ambient lighting, including interior lighting, reading lights, and mirror and footwell lighting.

Thanks to the wide color temperature range from 2700 to 6500 Kelvin and the ability to choose from small bins, automotive designers can precisely define their desired white tone and make it a fixed design element across vehicles.
In addition, the LEDs are small: The E1608 measures 1.6 x 0.8 x 0.6 mm, while the larger E3030 measures 3 x 3 x 0.65 mm. The Ostune E1608 covers the lower brightness range up to over 7 lumens, while the E3030 covers the upper range up to over 70 lumens.
