When I joined the Electronic Products’ editorial team, the editors warned me that the Product of the Year selection was a very detailed process, but little did I know it would take us about two full-time weeks of closed-door meetings to select the winners.
How does a product become a Product of the Year?
This year we had over 200 entries from companies to go through, as well as the thousands of products we brought you over the course of the year in print and online. That’s a lot of new technology!
From there, the editors whittled down the list to what they thought were the best products and technologies out there. It was each editor’s sole function to present and convince the rest of the editors that the products they were presenting were worthy of a Product of the Year Award. They pulled their information from many different resources: industry experts, impromptu phone interviews between company reps and the editors as the decisions were being made, and looking up competitive products to make sure the product was the one. This was not easy; we had seen a host of other really great products out there throughout the year.
So, what does this mean for the products that won? It means that they are truly outstanding, whether based on innovation, price/performance ratio, or solving outstanding problems.

What does it mean to you, the readers, of Electronic Products?
Some of these products may have started their journey in Electronic Products as New Products, Highlights, or even Outlooks, and others were recently introduced to the market. Throughout the year we covered many of them in print and online, so if you’re a reader who follows Electronic Products closely, you may already have even requested samples or possibly even incorporated some of these products into your designs. If you haven’t, now is the time to take a look at these great products.
I’m sure I speak for all the editors when I say that in 2008 we look forward to delivering you even more of the best products and technologies out there.
