Fabless semiconductor company Palma Ceia SemiDesign has announced sampling of its new PCS11ax28 transceiver chip for the 802.11ax Wi-Fi standard, also known as Wi-Fi 6. The company is currently working with global partners to expand supply.
The 802.11ax standard is the newest version of the 802.11 standard for wireless network transmissions. The new standard offers greater maximum data rates and a higher network capacity to support more IoT devices. In addition, Wi-Fi 6 is backward-compatible with the previous version of the Wi-Fi standard, 802.11ac.
Based on high-performance 28-nm HPC technology, the Wi-Fi chip offers low power consumption, with peak RX power consumption of 195 mW for the 1 × 1 MIMO configuration. It supports Wi-Fi 6 channel bandwidths of 20 MHz, 40 MHz, and 80 MHz, as well as all Wi-Fi 6 modulations up to 1,024 QAM. The analog I/O can enable Bluetooth over the 2.4-GHz channel. Availability of 2 × 2 and 4 × 4 configurations is expected in Q3 2020.
