Panasonic is developing a high-temperature, long-life-type nickel metal hydride battery. Designated the BK1100FHU, it has an ambient discharge range of −40°C to 85°C. Samples are anticipated to be available December 2016. The battery is suitable for applications requiring high capacity and a wide range of temperatures, targeting renewable energy applications (including solar street lights), tracking, underwater applications, and power sources.
The rechargeable NiMH batteries offer up to three times the capacity of same size standard nickel cadmium (NiCd) batteries. Due to their increased capacity and energy density features, users can expect a longer run time between charges.
