Panasonic Industrial Devices Sales Company of America has developed a new series of U-type nickel metal hydride batteries that offer high temperature tolerance up to 75°C and a lifetime of eight to 10 years. These batteries can be used as a replacement for nickel-cadmium batteries.
Designed for battery backup, the series features five different cells: the BK220SCHU, BK60AAAHU, BK120AAHU, BK1100FHU, and BK310CHU. Both the BK220SCHU and the BK60AAAHU are new designs. These cells use a nickel hydroxide cathode, a metal hydride anode, and an alkaline electrolyte so that they are safer and friendlier to the environment than other battery alternatives.
Applications include medical, emergency lighting, LED lighting, point-of-sale systems, ATMs, and vending machines.
