At Harrogate Hospital in the U.K., patients can opt to wear video goggles while undergoing medical procedures. Patients can feel more relaxed and be entertained during surgery, since the goggles provide a nice distraction from daunting operations. These video goggles have been proven to help patients cope with surgeries. The patients remain awake for the entire operation's duration. With video goggles distracting the patients, surgeons can reduce the overall dosage of sedation drugs and anesthetics that can sometimes give patients sickening side effects after the operation. The hospital began introducing the goggles last year and the technology has been very well received.
The Florida Hospital for Children has also started implementing the use of video goggles for patients requiring MRIs. This hospital uses Cinemavision MRI video from Resonance Technology that contains an MRI safe set of earphones that are attached to the video goggles. This technology enables children to remain calm during noisy MRI scans.
