PCI Express switches provide system interconnect solution
Chips offer up to 64 lanes and 16 ports
Said to be the first PCI Express-based system interconnect solution to provide intra- and inter-board communications with predictability and efficient management throughout the system, the 89PESxxxx series switches also feature low power. The devices provide unconstrained inter-processor communications, plus flexible virtualization and sharing of peripherals and system I/O.
Three of the ICs are for system interconnect between roots and intelligent endpoints throughout a bladed system. These range from 32-lane/8-port to the industry’s first 64-lane/16-port configuration. Another four devices are inter-domain switches that support address translation and nontransparent bridging between PCI Express domains. These latter chips range from 8-lane/2-port to 24-lane/3-port.
Power usage is from 2.2 to 12.9 W, and the chips come in 324 to 1,156-ball packages. ($85 to $160 system interconnect; $21 to $32 inter-domain ea/prod qtysamples available now; prod qty, 3rd and 4th qtr.)
