PCIe 3.0 switches handle up to 48 lanes

Samples are now available for what is said to be the industry’s first PCI Express 3.0 switches — working at 8 Gbits/s in both directions, per lane. Six versions are offered, ranging from the PEX8712 12-lane/3-port device to the PEX8748 48-lane/12-port chip.

The devices offer hot-plug capability and a nontransparent port feature that enables the implementation of multihost systems. They come in 19 x 19-mm or 27 x 27-mm packages. ($30 to $95 ea/volume qty samples available now.)
