PCIexpress switches handle four or six ports

The PEX 8604 and 8606 low-lane-count, low-power (0.8-W typ), PCIexpress Gen 2 switches feature nontransparency, configurable ports (x1 or x2), true peer-to-peer fanout, and two virtual channels per port that help ensure quality of service (QoS).

The low-cost ICs have four lanes/four ports or six lanes/six ports. Their cut-through latency is 190 ns, and they come in 196-ball 15 x 15-mm PBGA packages. (Volume qty: PEX 8604, $7.95; 8606, $9.95, — samples in July.)
