PCMCIA cards are
Plug and Play compatible
The PCMCIA-232 and PCMCIA-485 are Windows 95 Plug and Play-compatible
asynchronous serial interface cards that connect to RS-232 and RS-485 devices,
respectively. The cards can be accessed by applications such as LabVIEW,
LabWindows/CVI, ComponentWorks, and Measure, as well as by development
environments like Visual C++.
The cards include an enhanced COM driver that transmits data at rates
up to 115.2 kbits/s, and which supports the two-wire transceiver control
mode of the PCMCIA-485. Both cards use 16550-compatible UARTs and are compatible
with standard PC COM ports. (One-port version PCMCIA-232, $195; two-port
version PCMCIA-232/2, $295; one-port version PCMCIA-485, $245; two-port
version PCMCIA-485/2, $345–available now.)
