Performance vector tester delivers 5G FR1 testing

The R&S PVT360A performance vector tester provides high-speed testing for 5G FR1 base stations, small cells and RF components.

Rohde & Schwarz has launched its R&S PVT360A high-speed and high-throughput performance vector tester. The VSG/VSA single-box tester is optimized for 5G NR FR1 base station, small cell and RF component testing in production and characterization environments. It meets increasingly more demanding requirements as a result of additions to the original 3GPP Release 15 specification in Releases 16 and 17, said the company.

The R&S PVT360A features a frequency range from 400 MHz to 8 GHz, which covers all 5G FR1 frequency bands as well as the extension to unlicensed frequency bands in the U.S. to 7.125 GHz, and up to 500-MHz maximum signal bandwidth, which surpasses the 5G FR1 maximum of 100 MHz.

The performance vector tester provides two TRX channels with two independent signal generators and analyzers for fast parallel measurements. Each of the twin channels support eight parallel full-duplex test ports.

Additional features include for input, ports are fast switched in less than 10 microseconds for sequential analysis of parallel or multiport devices; transmitter and receiver tests can be carried out in parallel, and the tester optimizes test sequences, minimizing idle processing time.

With the second channel, users can run True MIMO 2×2 tests with signal paths tested in parallel. An optional smart channel mode divides the R&S PVT360A into up to eight separate virtual instruments that share the generator and analyzer, featuring optimized resource scheduling for calculations and processing.

Standard compliant waveforms for 5G NR release 15, 16 and 17 (plus WLAN standards up to 8 GHz) support typical base station transmitter and receiver tests including EVM, output power or frequency error. The tester uses R&S VSE Vector Signal Explorer PC-based signal analyzer software for additional analysis.

The R&S PVT360A is currently available and will be showcased at MWC2023 in Barcelona at Rohde & Schwarz booth 5A80 from February 27 to March 2, 2023.
