PHY chips handle 10- and 20-Gbit networks

The PM5420 and PM5426 HyPHY 20-Gbit/s High-Capacity and 10-Gbit/s multirate multiprotocol PHY ICs aid the convergence of high-bandwidth data, video, and voice services over Optical Transport Network-based metro infrastructures. They are said to achieve a 50% power savings over existing designs.

The chips deliver Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) and 10-Gbit pluggable (XFP or SFP+) interfaces with high-capacity framing, mapping, and multiplexing of carrier Ethernet, SAN, OTN, SONET/SDH, and transparent bit services such as video. They support timing over packet (IEEE 1588 and SynchE) and Ethernet Link OAM and come in 40-mm2 1517 ball FCBGA packages. ($785 HyPHY PM5420; $550 HyPHY PM5426 ea/5,000 — sampling now.)
