Physicist Neil deGrasse Tyson reviews technical, scientific, and overall credibility of new sci-fi flick, ‘Interstellar’

Popular movie gets glowing review from well-known scientist

Interstellar, the Matthew McConaughey-starring, Christopher Nolan-directing science fiction action flick, is a story about a group of explorers who use a wormhole in space to surpass the limitations of human space travel and achieve new grounds in interstellar exploration.

Fortunately for its investors, the nearly-three-hour movie, which cost approximately $165 million to make, has opened to rave reviews. Among its fans, perhaps a bit surprisingly to many given the high level of criticism with which he reviews popular science / technology-based forms of entertainment, is American cosmologist, physicist, and author Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Dr. Tyson took to Twitter this past weekend to share his feelings on the new science fiction action flick, and not since 1998’s Deep Impact has he given such positive reviews of a movie about space and the scientists / engineers depicted there within.

For those unfamiliar, here are some of his 20 tweets about last year’s unexpectedly popular Sandra Bullock / George Clooney movie, Gravity:

So, with all of that being said, when Dr. Tyson began tweeting using the hashtag “Interstellar”, the online world took notice:

Okay, that one may have been a little tongue-in-cheek, but here are some of his more noteworthy tweets:

There you have it — if you were on the fence about whether or not to invest your time and money to see Interstellar, according to its reviews, the film is incredibly entertaining, and, as per the science and engineering community’s foremost critic of space-based entertainment, it’s pretty accurate too.
