Measuring 1.8 x 1.8 x 6 mm, the SQL-1.8 Squiggle piezoelectric motor travels as fast as 7 mm/s and pushes axial loads of up to 30 g—nearly 200 times its own weight. The motor is presented as 40% faster and 50% stronger than the company’s slightly smaller SQL-1.5 version to suit applications that require greater performance such as phone cameras, medical devices, and electronic locks.
New materials and thread design in the linear-drive screw enable high-volume automated manufacturing on the company’s newly commissioned precision robotic assembly line. Screw length is 12 mm, travel is 6 mm, and position resolution (open loop) is 0.5 µm. Operating temperature range is from 30 to 80°C, and lifetime exceeds 300,000 cycles.
