PLC is integrated with PC
Using the ability of the PC to integrate data directly with the control
functions of a programmable logic controller, the SLOT PLC is a complete
PLC built on a PC/AT-compatible board. Connected to the manufacturer's
Simatic S5 series of input and output modules, the board uses a piggyback
communication module for I/O communication. Up to 256 digital inputs and
256 digital outputs can be connected to the unit, with the option of
expanding to 32 analog inputs and 16 analog outputs. Based on a 386SX-16
processor, the board comes with 110 Kbytes of RAM, 2,048 internal relays,
256 timers, and 256 counters. The module can be programmed over the
backplane by an external programmer via an extension box that provides an
RS-232 and TTY interface as well as battery backup for the PLC program.
