PMICs enable automotive ECUs handling of harsh electrical conditions

The S6BP20x series of automotive PMICs is the industry’s most compact, highly integrated power management IC that regulates power supply voltages from a vehicle’s battery. The device targets automotive applications including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), body control modules and instrument cluster systems. The PMIC leverages a one-channel, buck-boost dc/dc converter to enable electronic control unit (ECU) power management solutions to safely manage extreme battery voltage fluctuations. The PMICs enable small form factor ECU power management solutions that use only one ceramic capacitor instead of the two bulky electrolytic capacitors required by competitive PMICs. The S6BP20x automotive PMICs require only nine external components.

Also introduced was the S6BP50x PMIC series that targets the automotive instrument cluster. The 3-channel output PMICs integrate a buck controller, a buck converter and a boost converter, along with a spread spectrum clock generator. Both PMIC series complement the S6BP40x series secondary power source, as well as the Traveo automotive microcontroller (MCU) family. These automotive PMICs carry an AEC-Q100 automotive qualification. The S6BP20x and S6BP50x series are currently sampling, with production expected in the first half of 2016.
