POF transceivers deliver high voltage isolation

Firecomms’ RedLink POF transceivers deliver high voltage isolation and EMI immunity for industrial power electronics applications.

Firecomms Ltd. has launched its RedLink series of plastic optical fiber (POF) transceivers, featuring high EMI immunity and robust RF signal isolation for industrial power electronics applications. The miniature transmitters and receivers provide digital signal communications at data rates from DC to 50 MBd over plastic optic fiber using low-current, eye-safe 650-nw wavelength visible light for industrial power drives, robotics and traction applications.

The RedLink transmitters feature a reliable resonant cavity light emitting diode (RCLED) with an integrated driver IC to send 650-nm red wavelength light over plug-terminated POF to a RedLink receiver with integrated pulse width distortion modulation (PWM) circuitry and push-pull TTL CMOS output to provide data transmission rates from DC to 50 MBd for up to 50 meters. They support industry communications standards RS232, RS485, CAN-Bus, ModBus and PROFIBUS.

The intrinsically safe visible light produced by the RCLED requires low operating current and simplifies set-up and testing, Firecomms said. Available in inverting and non-inverting options, the RedLink Series devices operate from 5-V or 3.3-V DC rails with ±10% voltage tolerance at industrial temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C.

The devices are available in horizontal, vertical and 30°angled entry versions, in RoHA-compliant, flame retardant (UL 94 V-0) miniature housings.

The RedLink POF industrial-grade transceivers provide high voltage isolation and EMI immunity for a range of applications, including high-voltage DC drives, robotics, renewable energy, medical diagnostic equipment, diesel and electric traction, industrial power control systems and other power electronics applications.

Firecomms is exhibiting at APEC 2024, Booth #2035, co-located with distributor NAC Semiconductor. The company will showcase its complete line of POF transceivers and industrial-grade interconnects.
