Polymer-based EL lamps are thin

All polymer-based and with a multilayer construction, the Celest-EL range
of electroluminescent (EL) lamps measure in thickness from 0.008 to 0.012
in. Also, reliability is enhanced with a chemical process that renders the
phosphor chemically inert in the presence of water molecules. Tested at
up to 5 million cycles on a life cycle tester, with the lamp powered up
approximately every 250,000 actuations for 30 min, the lamps show no
brightness variation. A conductive layer eliminates the need for a bus bar
and allows for larger illuminated areas and thinner edge seals. The lamps
are available in aviation green, blue green, yellow green, standard white,
blue white, light blue, dark blue, and amber. Standard lamp brightness at
115 V, 400 Hz is 20 fL. The lamps can be operated at 35 fL and at 5,000
Hz. (4 x 1-in. lamp, from $4.04 ea/100–6 to 9 weeks ARO.) Leading Edge
