If you thought you’d seen it all, well, you haven’t. At least, not until you check out the promotional video below for D Free, a new wearable that informs its owner when they can expect their next bowel movement.
Billed as a medical device for individuals with disabilities or other medical conditions that lead to unpredictable bowel movements, the wearable will soon be launched on crowdfunding site Indiegogo in hopes of generating the funds necessary to bring it to market.
This is the first time news of D Free has been mentioned, so details are still scarce. But according to the video below, the rectangular wearable is worn on the user’s abdomen for the purpose of detecting activity in his / her intestines. It then takes this information and sends it to an accompanying app which will then push a notification to the person’s smartphone / tablet to let them know how much time he / she has to find a bathroom.
D Free will also track its owner’s activity over time, to learn about his / her habits for the purpose of providing more tailored notifications.
“You'll no longer feel stressed about unpredictable bowel movements,” the video assures its audience.
While D Free certainly makes itself open to many jokes, the company behind it — Triple W — is adamant that its purpose is no laughing matter. Specifically, they are hoping it will solve the very real issue that many of today’s elderly and disabled face every day — the need to find a restroom before an embarrassing situation occurs.
D Free is expected to launch its Indiegogo campaign in May, with the goal of getting the product to market by the end of 2015.
