Port-protection devices
are first for HDMI, DVI
Passives thwart ESD and overcurrents while reducing space requirements by 40% over discretes
Featuring low-capacitance (0.9-pF) ESD diode arrays, the MediaGuard CM2020 and CM2021 port-protection devices are the industry's first optimized specifically for high-speed HDMI and DVI interfaces. The parts offer ESD protection for all 12 data lines, reduce space requirements by up to 40% compared to using discrete components, and provide backdrive and overcurrent protection (CM2020) in devices such as DVD players, flat-panel monitors, and set-top boxes.
Designed to minimize inductance and capacitance, the parts offer self-resonance frequencies in excess of 5 GHz. Signal attenuation at 1080p HDTV resolution is less than 0.1 dB, and at maximum HDMI frequencies (1.65 GHz) is less than 1 dB.
Available in 38-pin TSSOPs, the parts feature a pinout matched to the HDMI's 0.5-mm connector spacing. (CM2020, from $1.39 ea/1,000; CM2021, $1.29 ea/1,000available now.)
