Power connector delivers signal and power for UAVs and drones

TE Connectivity’s UMP power connector, offering up to 80 amps per contact, is available as a power or mixed signal/power interface.

TE Connectivity has introduced its Unmanned Power (UMP) connector series that offers up to 80 amps per contact. The power connector line provides options for power or mixed signal/power contacts, targeting unmanned aerial vehicle (UVA) and commercial drone applications. Other applications include robotics and factory automation.

TE Connectivity UMP power connector familyThe UMP connector provides a contact interface that delivers power or both power and signal to control rotors, battery systems, and power distribution systems in unmanned vehicles. The series offers two- or three-position power options, along with mixed signal/power options in three positions (two power and one bank of eight signal contacts). Signal pins are rated up to 4 amps per contact.

The power connector was designed with high-temperature materials and contact interfaces that withstand harsh environments, while balancing weight and density, according to TE. The power connectors can be sealed in a wire-to-wire format for added environmental protection.

The connector series is available in a variety of configurations and solder-free options. Other features include a crimp pigtail assembly with high-grade flexible silicone wire rated at 200˚C and 600 V with other wire options available, a smaller bulkhead mount compared to competing connectors, and contact locks to maintain contact alignment. An optional latch is available. Contacts are removeable, replaceable, and repairable. The connectors are rated up to 500 mating cycles.
