Coilcraft has released two high-current, molded power inductors that offer unique termination options. Both inductors come in composite construction, which results in soft saturation characteristics, allowing inductors to withstand high-current spikes.
First, take the XTL7030 Series inductors, which offer side-metal terminations for automated optical inspection (AOI) of the component during the solder reflow process. The inductance values range from 10 µH to 47 µH, which is significantly higher than competing products in the same size.
The XTL7030 inductors offer current handling capability of up to 5.3 A and very low AC/DC losses to ensure power efficiency. And they are qualified to the AEC-Q200 Grade 1 standards while supporting ambient temperatures ranging from –40°C to 125°C. That makes them highly suitable for automotive and other harsh-environment applications.
The XTL7030 inductors measure just 7.1 mm2 , come in a maximum height of 3.2 mm, feature RoHS-compliant tin-silver over copper terminations, and are halogen-free. On the other hand, Coilcraft’s XAR7030 Series inductors measure 8.5 mm2 and feature terminals that elevate the inductor body 1.5 mm from the PCB surface.
Its off-the-board construction allows power-management IC packages like QFN to be mounted beneath the inductor in a 3D-packaging arrangement. And that significantly reduces the board space.
The inductance values in XAR7030 Series range from 0.16 µH to 10 µH. Next, the inductors offer direct current resistance (DCR) as low as 1.26 mΩ. The XAR7030 inductors boast RoHS-compliant matte tin over nickel over phos bronze terminations and are halogen-free.
