Infineon Technologies AG has bundled a complete power management solution for compute servers that supports Intel’s Sapphire Rapids server CPUs, enabling high energy efficiency in data centers. This new “pick-and-place” solution uses Infineon digital controllers, integrated power stages, and POL converters, including the XDP digital multiphase controllers, OptiMOS integrated power stages, and OptiMOS IPOL voltage regulator.
The power management ICs include the newly released XDP hyper transient phase XDPE152 series controllers, OptiMOS IPOL TDA38640 converter, and TDA2159 series of OptiMOS integrated power stages, as well as the TDA21520/TDA21535 series, initially released for Intel’s previous platform.
The new XDP hyper transient phase XDPE152 series controllers (XDPE15284D, XDPE15254D, XDPE152C4D) are based on the ultra-low-power Arm Cortex-M0 for optimized performance across workloads. The proprietary control algorithms offer ultra-high-speed response by managing pulsating processor peak currents with minimal output capacitance, said Infineon. The PMBus and serial voltage identification (SVID) interfaces control command and monitoring functions and supports dynamic voltage identification with 5 mV/step or 10 mV/step in Intel mode, an output range up to 3.04 V, offset and trim resolution of 625 µV, and accuracy better than 0.5%.
“The software-defined architecture offers unique flexibility for system designers to optimize system performance across different system architectures and processor workloads,” said the company.
Infineon said the new OptiMOS IPOL 40-A TDA38640 synchronous buck converter with Intel SVID and I2C interfaces features the best transient response enabled by the company’s proprietary Fast Constant ON Time (COT) control engine and enhanced digital telemetry when operating with Intel’s SVID and PMBus. Key specs include a wide input voltage range from 3 V to 17 V and an output voltage range of 0.25 V to 3.04 V based on an output feedback divider network. The device also offers programmable switching frequency range from 400 kHz to 2 MHz in steps of 200 kHz, excluding 1600 kHz.
The TDA215xx series of OptiMOS integrated power stages leverage the OptiMOS 6 technology to offer >95 percent efficiency and high reliability, which helps reduce system cooling and maintenance costs.
The OptiMOS 90-A TDA21590 integrated power stage, released within the past year, features a low quiescent current synchronous buck gate-driver IC which integrates control and synchronous MOSFETs together with an active diode structure that achieves low VDS similar to a Schottky with very little reverse recovery charge, according to Infineon. The gate driver and MOSFET combination is said to higher efficiency at lower output voltages required by CPU, GPU, and DDR memory designs. The device also offers operation of up to 1.5-MHz switching frequency, which enables a high performance transient response and miniaturization of output inductors, as well as input and output capacitors, said the company.
The OptiMOS 20-A TDA21520 and OptiMOS 35-A TDA21535 power stages, like the TDA21590, contains a low quiescent-current synchronous buck gate-driver IC integrated with high-side and low-side MOSFETs and an active diode structure that achieves low Vsd similar to a Schottky with very little reverse recovery charge. Both devices form a complete low voltage, high power DC/DC regulator when used with Infineon multiphase controller ICs. Also similar to the 90-A version, the TDA21520/TDA21535 internal MOSFET current sense algorithm with temperature compensation is said to offer better current sense accuracy versus best-in-class controller-based inductor DCR sense methods, and offers operation of up to 1.5-MHz switch frequency.
The XDP hyper transient phase controllers, IPOL switching converter, and OptiMOS integrated power stage solutions are available now.
